On top of the regular rides, BIC also sponsors and hosts some special events as
well. Often these rides include great scenery (heritage), food, and fun. Most of
these rides require registration in advance to be able to participate. This
helps cover the various costs associated with hosting a big event and allows us
to continue to host it every year for your enjoyment. The Amish Harvest Century
Tour is probably our most popular annual ride.
Overview of
Annual Events
Hot Chocolate Ride
- 10-15 miles or less
Traditionally, this
ride ignores the weather. Sanctuary in town offers stops and comforts, thanks to
veteran organizer, Bob Oppliger. Club members offer their homes and hospitality
to a roving band of gypsies. This ride usually takes place the last Saturday of
January.
Amana Breakfast Ride - 35/50+ miles
Independence Day brings the annual Amana Breakfast Ride, a 58 mile ride through the rolling countryside rewarded with an all-you-can-eat breakfast in Main Amana.
RAGBRAI - 300+ miles
The last full week in July is the annual RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa). BIC provides RAGBRAI wristbands, transportation to and from the start and end points, and hauls baggage for members. You must have been a BIC member from the previous year to be able to go with BIC on the annual bike ride extraordinaire. See the BIC RAGBRAI page for more info.
Amish Harvest Tour to Cure Cancer - 100, 75, 55, 27 miles
In September, BIC hosts the annual Amish Harvest Tour to Cure Cancer or "The Courage Ride". This ride is fully supported with breakfast, rest stops, sag wagon, and various forms of entertainment and attractions along the route(s). For more information on this event, check out the official homepage.
Bike to Work Week
Bike to Work Week is becoming an annual tradition. The concept is simple: Give
up your motor vehicle route for one day, or the entire week and experience your
commute by bike. You may be pleasantly surprised with the results! Iowa City &
Coralville have come together in the past to celebrate this week with some hosted events.
Check out the IC/Coralville Bike to Work Week homepage to more
information.

BikeIowa's BTWW page
Ride of Silence
This ride aims to raise awareness of the presence of cyclists and to give riders an opportunity to mourn and remember fallen and injured cyclists. For more details, head to the Iowa City Ride of Silence Page.
Also, check out the official page of the ride that started it all.
