A bicycle does get you there and more.... And there is always the thin edge of danger to keep you alert and comfortably apprehensive. Dogs become dogs again and snap at your raincoat; potholes become personal. And getting there is all the fun.

New Ride Leaders and Procurers Needed for 2008

BIC needs some new friendly faces to help lead and procure ride leaders. If you already ride with the group at least once or twice a month, then please consider stepping up to the position.

A Ride Leader looks after riders on any given day, and the only requirement is the ability to ride in a safe, predictable manner. For more information on the responsibilities associated with this position, please see "Ride Leader Stuff" on the left menu pane.

A Ride Procurer simply recruits Ride Leaders for any given month. You can do this via e-mail or phone calling. No worries if you can't obtain a Ride Leader for every single ride, but your ultimate goal should be to fill the slate. After you manage to recruit for the given month, you simply send the sheet to the Touring Coordinator and to the Ride Planner.

As BIC continues to grow, we will need more volunteers to fill positions. No one likes to see the same face on every other ride, and every procurer can be intimidated by the procuring process and needs a break, and even committed volunteers need a break as well.

If you are interested in stepping up, please contact Nick Maddix at bicyclistsofiowacity@gmail.com or leave him a message at 319-594-2857. Check the website frequently for draft schedules of upcoming rides that you may be interested in volunteering for. Leaders are recruited on a first-come, first-serve priority basis for any given ride, so if there is a ride you would love to lead, you'll need to contact Nick as soon as possible to ensure that you are the leader for that given ride!

Thanks in advance to all our volunteer that have been leaders and procurers in the past. The club is entirely devoted to your support.
